Agboworin Donates 500 Chairs, 10,600 Notebooks, 900 Textbooks To Schools In Ibadan North-East/South-East

Stakeholders across Ibadan North-East and South-East Federal Constituency have commended the lawmaker representing the constituency, Rt. Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin, for his latest intervention aimed at improving learning conditions in schools.

The commendation followed the distribution of educational materials — 500 chairs, 10,600 notebooks and 900 textbooks — facilitated by Agboworin in collaboration with the National Productivity Centre (NPC).

The distribution held on Monday at Old Barracks, Kajola-Irede Street, Oju-Irora Hospital Academy, Ibadan, to support teaching and learning and reduce material challenges facing pupils, students, teachers and schools.

Under the arrangement, schools in Ibadan South-East received 250 chairs, 5,200 notebooks and 450 textbooks, while those in Ibadan North-East received 250 chairs, 5,400 notebooks and 450 textbooks.

The textbooks are primarily intended for school libraries, while the notebooks and chairs are to support classroom activities.

Speaking at the event, Agboworin said the intervention was part of efforts to complement government initiatives in the education sector and provide practical support to families in his constituency.

He explained that the schools covered in the current phase were not the only targets, noting that there are over 40 schools across the two local government areas and that subsequent phases would reach other schools.

“The schools picked today were not selected because they are the best. We have over 40 schools in the two local governments, and everybody will be given the opportunity to benefit,” he said.

Agboworin clarified that the textbooks were meant for school libraries and not for sale. He said his personal experience as a student who struggled to access textbooks and exercise books influenced his decision to make educational support a recurring part of his constituency interventions.

“I used to be a student in this constituency. I used to be one of those who did not have enough textbooks. I did not have money to buy textbooks or exercise books. So, if I am in a position of authority to do this, why not?” he said.

The lawmaker also disclosed that he has sustained an after-school tutorial programme for students in both local governments, with teachers engaged and paid to provide extra lessons throughout the year.

Beyond education, he said his interventions have covered healthcare and infrastructure, including medical outreaches and projects involving roads, streetlights and solar lighting.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, commended Agboworin for maintaining contact with constituents and supporting educational development, describing the intervention as a demonstration of strong connection between elected representatives and their communities.

“We have never had it so good like this in this constituency. We thank the Governor for giving us Agboworin. I am happy he has not disappointed us,” Ige said, urging beneficiary schools to maintain and properly use the materials.

Representing the Director-General of the National Productivity Centre, Mr. Aluko Ayodeji commended the quality of the materials after inspecting them and urged proper utilisation to encourage further interventions.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ibadan North-East chapter, Comrade Oladejo Sunday, represented by Comrade Fadiji Oluseyi, and his counterpart in Ibadan South-East, Comrade Taofeek Adediran, represented by Comrade Yetunde Oguntola, appreciated the gesture and called for sustained collaboration and further rehabilitation of school infrastructure.

Also present were the Education Secretaries for Ibadan South-East and North-East, Olumide James and Hon. George Akintunde; the Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement in Ibadan North-East, Alhaji Isiaka Fatokun, popularly known as Abuye; Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Hon. Abiodun Adedoja Ekolo; and Special Adviser on Youth Development, Hon. Akinleye.

Among beneficiary schools in Ibadan South-East are Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Ibadan City Grammar School, Eleta High School, Ibadan Grammar School, Anglican School, Molete, St. Luke School, Molete, Community Grammar School, Kudeti, IMG Alake, Bolawal Nursery and Primary School, Green Valley Nursery and Primary School, and Four Square Nursery and Primary School.

In Ibadan North-East, beneficiaries include Loyola College, HLA Agodi, Bashorun High School, Oluyoro Girls High School, St. Cyprian Primary School, Lagelu Grammar School, St. John Secondary School and Olubadan High School.
