‘Tell Us If Your Heart Is Still In PDP/ZLP’ — Pro-APC Group Slams Sen. Sarafa Alli
…Queries His Progressive Credentials After Viral Video
Oyo Progressive Mobilisation Group has frowned at the viral video circulating about the gubernatorial candidate of its party, All Progressives Congress, APC, Sen. Sharafadeen Alli, chanting “APM, APM….”, during his address at the launching of the Alao-Akala Transformation Movement in Ogbomoso.
The group, in their expanded press release signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Amoo Ibrahim and Opeyemi Olasunkanmi respectively, condemns the non-internalisation of progressive spirit and ethos in the mind of the party’s gubernatorial candidate. According to the Oyo Progressive Mobilisation Group, the APM being repeatedly chanted by its guber candidate is the party of the incumbent governor of the state; how then are we prepared to face them if ours is already hailing to give them more strength?
In their full address, the group described the scene as disgraceful, un-progressive, and a total gross misconduct against the progressive party in the state, as it is obvious and looks indefensible.
“We are disturbed and seriously concerned to watch the gubernatorial candidate of our party, Oloye (Sen.) Sharafadeen Alli, repeatedly echo APM on a stage while addressing the members of the movement being launched. Even the call for correction at his first pronouncement still fails, and leads him to repeat the same grievous error, messing with the sensibility and intelligence of the core progressive members in Oyo State and beyond.”
“It is incumbent on us to also re-echo the earlier warning of handing over the party to those who have never shared the progressive bonds and spirits over the years. Sen. Sharafadeen Alli has spent more than 90% of his political years in conservative parties that have always been critical of the progressives in history, from SDP to UNCP, PDP, Labour Party, ZLP, and Accord; and ditto his running mate, Mr. Adesoji Adedeji, who out of his non-sportsmanlike spirit left the party in 2023 to join Accord and later eventually contest Federal House of Representatives elections for his federal constituency under the Labour Party, which was very antagonistic of the APC throughout the nation.”
“We don’t know how the core progressive members will continue to experience these unwarranted insults at the hands of the imported conservatives masking as progressive-minded without cautioning them or putting them through proper orientation of what the progressive party, APC, is all about. It is even sad to see some of those perceived to be honest progressive members around them failing to tutor them appropriately on what to do and what not to do in APC.””
“At the Oyo Progressive Mobilisation Group, we are concerned about the future of our party in the hands of the present few privileged. And it is time for the progressive members to fight against the ‘ajeji’ messing with the sensitivity of the APC in the name of tokenisation.”
“We are APC, not APM. That should ring a bell in the ears and hearts of our gubernatorial candidate, not otherwise. Except if he still has his heart in the conservative parties in existence. He should timely tell us, and not use us to achieve getting into government and return to either the PDP or ZLP or another of his former parties.”
