Oyo West APM Picks Olatunji, Oyewale George As Chair, Vice Chair Candidates

The Allied People’s Movement, APM, in Oyo West Local Government Area, has unanimously adopted Hon. Akande Ibrahim Olatunji and Engr. Oyewale George Salawudeen as its chairmanship and vice chairmanship candidates for the forthcoming local government election.

The decision was taken at an expanded leaders and stakeholders meeting, otherwise called a congress, held at Lambaba Hotels, Oyo, on Sunday, August 1, 2026.

Also approved at the meeting were 10 ward councillorship candidates who will fly the party’s flag in the December 2027 council polls across Oyo West LGA.

Speaking at the congress, party leaders said the selection process was transparent and reflected the collective will of stakeholders across the 10 wards of the local government.

The adopted candidates include Hon. Akande Ibrahim Olatunji as Chairman, a Muslim, and Engr. Oyewale George Salawudeen as Vice Chairman, a Christian. The choice reflects the party’s commitment to religious balance, considering the demographic composition of Oyo West Local Government.

2. Ward 2: Oranlola Mujidat Taiwo

3. Ward 3: Ogunsola Tunde Oyebamiji

4. Ward 4: Oladele Dasola Sukurat

5. Ward 5: Azeez Yusuff Olalekan

6. Ward 6: Aleem Saheed Ademola

7. Ward 7: Olukore Waidi Aderemi

8. Ward 8: Adedeji Nurudeen Adebayo

9. Ward 9: Olaniyi Abraham Oyewale

10. Ward 10: Adediran Oluseun Jonathan

Party chieftains at the meeting described the emergence of Olatunji and Engr. Oyewale as a product of consensus and wide consultation, noting that both candidates have the capacity and grassroots appeal to deliver victory for APM in Oyo West.

The stakeholders, however, said the party is awaiting the harmonization list from Governor Seyi Makinde to ensure alignment with the broader political arrangement in the state ahead of the elections.

They pledged to mobilize massively for the party and work for the success of APM candidates at all levels, stressing that the local government needs credible leadership that will prioritize infrastructure, youth empowerment and grassroots development.

MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that the December 2027 local government election is expected to be conducted by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC.
