Busari Sues Accord, INEC, Seeks Court Order To Remove Oriyomi Hamzat As Governorship Candidate

A candidate for the governorship race for the 2027 general elections in Accord in Oyo State, Hon. Olakunle Busari, has approached the federal high court sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to strip his opponent, Mr Oriyomi Hamzat of the party’s governorship ticket.

Busari, in suit number: FHC/IB/CS/97/26, filed on his behalf by his counsel, Tunji Ogunrinde, SAN, is asking the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist and remove the name of Hamzat which was clandestinely uploaded by a section of the leadership of Accord party from its portal and replace it with his name as the authentic and rightful governorship candidate of Accord for the 2027 general elections in Oyo State.

Busari, premised his prayer before the court on the fact that Hamzat did not participate in the party’s direct primary election held on the 26th of May 2026.

He stated that having polled the highest number of votes in the direct primary election organised by the party, the court should compel INEC to accept, recognise and publish his name as the winner of the primary.

Busari, is also, seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC from recognizing and/or accepting or giving effect to the nomination and sponsorship of Hamzat whose name was wrongly uploaded as the Oyo State governorship candidate of Accord for the 2027 general elections.He is seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining Hamzat from parading himself as the bonafide and authentic candidate of the party.
