2 rescued, 1 kidnapper killed as Oyo Police storm forest hideout
MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that the Oyo State Police Command has successfully rescued two kidnap victims from Gbonkan Forest in the Itesiwaju Local Government Area.
During a shootout in the forest, one suspected kidnapper was neutralized by the command’s operatives.
According to DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Public Relations Officer for the Oyo State Police Command, the incident began on Monday, June 29, 2026, around 8:30 p.m., when armed individuals believed to be kidnappers attacked the camp of Alhaji Gbonkan in Gaa Alhaji, Gbonkan, near Ipapo.
The assailants reportedly fired their weapons to intimidate those present before abducting three adult males: Alhaji Usman Abubakar, Aliu Usman, and Saliu Abubakar.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State promptly ordered the Divisional Police Officer of Ipapo Division to organize a comprehensive joint security operation.
This medium understands that the operation involved personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Amotekun Corps, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), and local hunters.
The intense search led the security operatives to the kidnappers’ den deep within the forest.
When the security team approached, the criminals opened fire in an attempt to escape, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
During the confrontation, one of the suspected kidnappers was killed, while the remaining gang members escaped into the forest, possibly with gunshot injuries.
One member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) was injured during the encounter and is currently receiving medical attention.
