Nigerian on Bail Re-Arrested in Delhi With Drugs Worth N4.3 Million

Delhi Police have arrested a Nigerian national for allegedly supplying amphetamine in the capital, recovering narcotics worth about Rs 3 lakh, or N4.3 million, from him in Dwarka on Wednesday.

The accused, 42-year-old Cyracus Ifeanyi Onyekaonwu from Anambra State, was also found to be staying in India illegally without a valid visa or passport, police said.

Officers seized 14 grams of high-grade amphetamine, classified as an intermediate quantity under the NDPS Act, along with a scooter allegedly used for drug deliveries.

Police said the arrest was made under the anti-drug campaign Nashe Par Lagaam, Desh Ko Salaam, which targets drug traffickers and substance abuse in Delhi.

Acting on specific intelligence received Monday, the Anti-Narcotics Cell learned the suspect would arrive in the Anand Vihar area of Uttam Nagar to deliver a consignment of amphetamine.

A raiding team was formed immediately. The suspect was apprehended while allegedly en route to deliver the drugs. A search recovered the 14 grams of amphetamine, and the scooter was seized.

Police said Onyekaonwu had recently secured bail in a 2022 case registered under the NDPS Act and the Foreigners Act at Dwarka North Police Station. Following his release, he allegedly resumed narcotics trafficking.

A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Uttam Nagar Police Station.

Officials said they are now examining the accused’s network, supply chain, and possible links with other drug traffickers operating in Delhi and adjoining areas.
