Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, fulfilled his promise to victims of the Aleshinloye Market fire by handing over newly built shops free of charge to affected plastic sellers.
It would be recalled that fire outbreak on March 12, 2026, destroyed several shops at the Plastic Section of the popular market in Ibadan, leaving traders counting millions of naira in losses.
During an on-the-spot assessment on April 1, 2026, Governor Makinde assured the traders of government intervention and promised to rebuild their shops.
Fulfilling the promise, the governor visited the market on Wednesday and officially gifted the rebuilt shops to the owners at no cost, bringing relief to the beneficiaries.
The traders showered praises on the governor, describing him as a promise-keeping leader who feels the pains of the common man.
In his remarks, Makinde said his administration remains committed to the welfare of traders and the growth of commerce, noting that Aleshinloye remains a critical economic hub for the state.
The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, his Vice Chairman, Oloye Akinade Fijabi, Hon. Saheed Fijabi, alongside political appointees and career officers of the local government, were part of the governor’s entourage.
