There was drama at a mosque on Friday after worshippers staged a walkout while an Imam was reportedly campaigning for President Bola Tinubu, MOUTHPIECE NIGERIA has learnt.
According to a viral account of the incident, the Imam, identified as Mallam Jalo, had declared that Tinubu’s government is not oppressive.
A worshipper inside the mosque was said to have immediately shouted, “That’s a lie!” before hundreds of worshippers walked out of the mosque in protest.
The incident has sparked reactions on social media, with many describing it as a sign of growing rejection.
“Years ago, no Muslim would have dared challenge an Imam while he’s speaking, not to even talk of walking out on him. This is height of rejection and I’m sure the Imams would be careful about trying to campaign for Tinubu in mosques going forward,” a commentator wrote.
“You can’t force the people to accept what they said they don’t want,” he added.
As of press time, the location of the mosque and details of the incident could not be independently verified.
