Oyo LG Workers Commend Makinde, Wolekanle Over Staff Welfare, Job Security
Local government workers in Oyo State have commended Governor Seyi Makinde and the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Bashorun Akinwale Solomon Akinwole (Wolekanle), for their commitment to staff welfare and job security across the local government service.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Education and Social Services of the Commission, Mrs Funke Foluso Lala, following the conclusion of the Staff Auditing and Verification Exercise conducted across the 33 local government areas of the state.
The workers described the administration of Akinwole at the commission as a departure from the past, noting that his initiatives were aligned with the welfare objectives of the Makinde administration.
They also praised the commission’s emphasis on training across various cadres, saying the programmes had contributed to improved capacity and service delivery among local government personnel.
Speaking during the exercise, Akinwole clarified that the staff audit was not designed to downsize the workforce, but to establish accurate personnel records and identify vacancies requiring additional manpower.
He said the exercise was anchored on proper records management and adherence to due process in the local government system.
«“I want to reiterate that we are not downsizing, we are not witch-hunting, and we are not retrenching. Rather, we want to employ more hands to fill the vacancies that we have noticed,” Akinwole said.»
The exercise covered the six zones of the state—Oyo, Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun I, Oke-Ogun II, Ibarapa and Ibadan—with the commission also giving special attention to physically challenged and ailing members of staff during the verification process.
The commission said the exercise was aimed at strengthening personnel records, ensuring proper staffing and improving efficiency across the local government service.
The statement was signed by Mrs Funke Foluso Lala, Director, Education and Social Services, Oyo State Local Government Service Commission.
