The Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief (Engr.) Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has reaffirmed his commitment to the development and empowerment of young people across Nigeria and Yorubaland as the world marks *International Youth Day 2026*.
Chief Sanusi described youths as critical drivers of social and economic development, stressing that they must be given the opportunities, skills, mentorship and platforms needed to realise their potential.
According to him, youth empowerment must move beyond rhetoric to practical and sustainable initiatives in education, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, sports, technology, leadership and economic development.
“Our youths are not merely leaders of tomorrow; they are leaders of today. We must give them the opportunity, resources and platforms to contribute meaningfully to society now,” he said.
Chief Sanusi noted that investing in young people is an investment in the future of Nigeria. He added that a society that deliberately develops its youth will build stronger communities, institutions and economies.
The Ibadan High Chief urged young Nigerians to take responsibility for their future by embracing education, innovation, entrepreneurship, discipline, integrity and hard work, while remaining proud of their cultural heritage.
He also called on governments at all levels, traditional institutions, the private sector, development partners and other stakeholders to make youth development a collective priority and increase investment in programmes that create meaningful opportunities.
Chief Sanusi further encouraged youths across Nigeria, Africa and the world to believe in their abilities and pursue excellence.
“Dream boldly. Learn continuously. Create fearlessly. Build responsibly. Serve selflessly. Lead courageously. The future belongs to those who prepare for it today,” he said.
