Adekanmbi Mourns Oloye Lekan Alabi, Hails Him as Custodian of Ibadan History

Oyo State governorship candidate on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has expressed deep sadness over the death of the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Ibadanland and Oyo State.

Oloye Lekan Alabi reportedly died on Saturday morning in Lagos at the age of 86.

In a condolence message, Adekanmbi described the late elder statesman as an epitome of knowledge and one of the most respected traditional leaders in the ancient city.

He noted that Oloye Lekan Alabi, who held the revered title of Abese Olubadan in the Olubadan chieftaincy line, dedicated his life to preserving the cultural heritage and historical identity of Ibadanland while contributing actively to the affairs of the traditional institution.

Adekanmbi also paid glowing tribute to the deceased’s remarkable career in journalism and public service, describing him as one of Oyo State’s most accomplished media professionals.

“Beyond his journalism career, Oloye Lekan Alabi was a prominent figure in Ibadan’s traditional institution. As Abese Olubadan, he played an active role in the affairs of the ancient city,” Adekanmbi said.

According to him, the late traditional chief distinguished himself in journalism, public communication and public service, earning widespread respect for his professionalism, integrity and commitment to excellence.

The APM governorship candidate said Oloye Lekan Alabi’s immense contributions to the media profession, the traditional institution and the development of Ibadan would remain indelible.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and urged his family, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, and the people of Ibadanland to take solace in the enduring legacy of service, wisdom and patriotism that he left behind.
