10 NYSC Members Rescued From Kidnappers In Kogi Forest, Hunt For Others Ongoing

Ten of the 15 National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members abducted last week have been rescued from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The Kogi State Police Command disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the rescue was carried out through a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu, said the operation was aimed at securing the safe release of the victims and dismantling criminal gangs operating in the area.

She added that efforts are still ongoing to rescue the remaining five corps members and arrest those behind the abduction.

According to her, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the police, military, DSS and other security agencies for their courage and commitment during the operation.

ASP Saliu also appreciated residents of the affected communities for the credible information they provided.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movement or information that could help us rescue the remaining victims and arrest the perpetrators,” she said.

She assured residents that security agencies are deploying all available resources to secure the release of the remaining victims and bring those responsible to justice.

The corps members were kidnapped last week while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State. Reports indicate that the kidnappers were demanding N20 million ransom from the families of some of the victims.
