Oyo Lawmaker, Bisi Oluranti Urges Makinde to Suspend End-of-Session School Celebrations Over Security Concerns
Hon. Mrs. Bisi Oluranti Oyewo, member representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to temporarily suspend end-of-session celebrations, valedictory ceremonies, and other school social activities across the state.
The appeal follows the recent abduction of students and teachers in Orire Local Government Area.
In a statement on Saturday, Bisi Oluranti said the temporary restriction would serve as a symbolic expression of empathy and solidarity with affected families, while reinforcing the need to prioritize the safety of students and educators.
“At a time when families and communities are deeply concerned over the safety of their loved ones, a temporary restriction on such gatherings would serve as a symbolic expression of the government’s compassion,” she said.
The lawmaker noted that similar precautionary measures have been adopted in some South-West states. She added that given Oyo State was directly affected by the incident, such a step would reassure citizens of the government’s commitment to protecting lives.
While expressing confidence in the Makinde administration and security agencies to secure the safe release of the abducted persons, Hon. Bisi Oluranti said her thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire Orire community.
