Kidnappers Demand Additional N300 Million for Niger NSIEC Official, Family Says

Kidnappers are demanding an additional N300 million for the release of Ahmed Mohammed, a permanent commissioner with the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, NSIEC, nine months after his abduction, a family member said.

The family member, who asked not to be named, told Daily Trust that the captors contacted the family Monday and said another N300 million was required. The family said it cannot raise the amount.

“They call almost every day. It was only yesterday, Tuesday, that they did not call,” the family member said. “We are appealing to the Niger State Government to come to our aid and secure his release. He was kidnapped while on an official engagement of the Niger State Government.”

Mohammed was abducted Sept. 29, 2025, along the Mokwa–Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area while traveling to Minna for official duties, ahead of the Nov. 1, 2025, local government elections. The family said it previously paid N40 million to the kidnappers.

Police and state officials had not commented on the case as of press time.
