He’s Too Young To Challenge Sharia Law – Sheikh Gumi Blasts Burkina Faso’s Leader, Ibrahim Traore

Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has criticised Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, over his position on Sharia and governance.

In a post on his Facebook page on Saturday, Gumi described Traoré as too young and inexperienced to handle the complexities of leadership.

According to him, the Burkina Faso leader is “naive” and does not fully understand the dynamics of religion, society, and global politics.

Gumi warned that Traoré’s approach could create opportunities for extremist groups to exploit public sentiment and attract more supporters.

He added that leadership decisions require a deeper understanding of social and geopolitical realities.

“Captain Ibrahim Traoré, born 14 March 1988, with his anti-Sharia stance, at the age of 38, with nothing but military training on his resume, is too naive to understand even the complexity of the society he is ruling under the gun, let alone the dynamics of contemporary geopolitics,” Gumi wrote.

“He has given the extremists the weapon they need to conscript more foot soldiers against his secular regime,” he added.

Traoré, 38, came to power in Burkina Faso in 2022 following a military coup. He has repeatedly stated that his administration will prioritize national sovereignty and secular governance amid the country’s fight against jihadist insurgency.
