FG, Dangote Cement Deepen Partnership to Accelerate Affordable Housing Delivery

The Federal Government has strengthened collaboration with Dangote Cement Plc and other stakeholders to accelerate affordable housing delivery across Nigeria, with focus on low-income earners and workers in the informal sector.

The renewed commitment was highlighted at the 2026 Abuja International Housing Show, AIHS, where industry leaders and policymakers commended Dangote Cement for supporting affordable housing and infrastructure development through the supply of quality building materials.

Stakeholders also praised the President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, for his investments in Africa’s industrial growth, describing his contributions as instrumental to economic transformation across the continent.

Speaking at the Dangote Cement exhibition pavilion, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Muttaka Rabe Darma, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s readiness to work with the cement manufacturer to reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit.

According to the minister, the theme of this year’s show, _“Housing Solutions for Low-Income and Informal Workers in Africa,”_ aligns with government efforts to expand access to affordable and sustainable housing nationwide.

Founder and CEO of AIHS, Festus Adebayo, described Dangote Cement as a reliable partner. He noted that Dangote Industries Limited served as principal sponsor of the show’s 20th edition, while Dangote Cement showcased innovative building products and housing solutions.

*Stakeholders Seek Innovative Financing*

Representing the National Sales Director of Dangote Cement, Regional Sales Director for North Central, Bankole George, said access to housing is essential for dignity, productivity, and social stability.

George identified major obstacles to affordable housing to include high land costs, expensive construction materials, limited mortgage access, weak rental systems, and restrictive planning regulations.

He advocated financing options tailored to low-income earners and informal workers, including micro-mortgages, rent-to-own schemes, cooperative savings, employer-assisted housing, and incremental housing loans.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, urged African lawmakers to champion housing reforms. Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, also called for innovative financing to bridge Africa’s housing gap and support sustainable urban development.

The 2026 Abuja International Housing Show attracted thousands of policymakers, investors, housing professionals, and delegates from across Africa, reinforcing its position as one of the continent’s leading platforms for housing and urban development discussions.
