Ex-Driver Sentenced to Death for Killing Abuja Couple
A former driver has been sentenced to death for murdering his ex-employers, an elderly couple, at their Abuja home, police said.
Jonathan Marcus, 57, was convicted Wednesday by the Federal Capital Territory High Court for the April 1, 2024, killings of Mr. Adebola Ezekiel, 80, and his wife, Mrs. Abiodun Ezekiel, at their residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Zone D, according to FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh.
Police said Marcus was arrested in Obajana, Kogi State, after fleeing Abuja following the murders.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to gaining access to the residence of the deceased at about 11:00 p.m. on 1st April, 2024, where he murdered the couple,” Adeh said in a statement.
Investigators said Marcus had worked as the couple’s driver but was dismissed after repeated disagreements.
Justice M. S. Idris found that prosecutors proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced Marcus to death by hanging, Adeh said.
The FCT Police Command said it remains committed to ensuring offenders are prosecuted.
