Resign Now’, Five Oyo APC Guber Hopefuls Tackle Chairman Over Primary

..Say Members are “Leaving the APC in Large Numbers”

About five All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in Oyo State have demanded the immediate resignation of state chairman, Moses Alake Adeyemo, accusing him of compromising internal democracy and declaring a candidate before the party’s official results.

The demand was contained in a communiqué issued after a meeting Monday by Rauf Olaniyan, Musbau Asanike, Ololade Usman Bakare, Akeem Agbaje, and Akeem Oyedele Alao.

“We believe the current leadership has failed to uphold fairness, internal democracy, and unity,” the aspirants said. “We unanimously resolved that the Oyo State APC Chairman, Moses Alake Adeyemo, must resign with immediate effect.”

They alleged Adeyemo directed local government party chairmen to “ensure victory for a particular aspirant” before the primaries, calling it “a gross abuse of office and a violation of the principle of neutrality.”

The aspirants also accused him of declaring an aspirant the governorship candidate before the National Working Committee announced official primary results.

“Such a premature announcement pre-empted due process, confused party members, and eroded trust in our institutions. Only the NWC has the constitutional mandate to announce election results,” the communiqué stated.

The aspirants further faulted Adeyemo for granting media interviews after a Sallah meeting with the President in which he allegedly presented a candidate as the party’s flagbearer.

The group cited his “public display of raising an aspirant’s hand” as further evidence of bias, saying it “amounted to imposition and disregarded the collective will of party members.”

Warning against a repeat of the APC’s 2019 and 2023 losses in Oyo, the aspirants said “division, imposition, and injustice weakened our ranks.”

“Probity, equity, and fairness must guide every decision we make. Our people deserve better than a party that ignores its own mistakes and repeats them,” they said.

Furthermore, the communiqué alleged Adeyemo failed to meet with aspirants during “the critical election period” and supplied “inadequate election materials” for the governorship primary, “disrupting the voting process and disenfranchising delegates.”

The aspirants however noted that members are “leaving the APC in large numbers” under his leadership.

According to the aspirants, “Loyal members feel sidelined, unprotected, and disrespected. This exodus is weakening our party structure and threatens our electoral prospects in 2026 and beyond.”

They urged the APC National Working Committee and stakeholders to intervene and facilitate Adeyemo’s resignation.

“The future of the APC in Oyo State depends on transparent leadership, respect for party rules, and justice for all members,” the aspirants said.

As at the time of filling this report, Adeyemo is yet to respond to the allegation nor the APC NWC has issued a statement on the allegations.
