Oyo is not a zoo”: Group Condemns SKIMEH’s Fourth Term Bid, Faults APC for Failing to Present New Credible Candidate

A political group in Oyo State on Wednesday condemned Rep. Akeem Adeyemi’s bid for a fourth term in the House of Representatives, saying “Oyo is not a zoo” and faulting the All Progressives Congress for failing to present a new, credible and competent candidate in Oyo Federal Constituency.

Adeyemi, popularly known as “Skimeh,” was appointed Caretaker Chairman of Atiba Local Government in 2007 before being elected Chairman.

He was elected to the House of Representatives for Oyo Federal Constituency in 2015 and secured the APC ticket for the 2027 general election.

According to a statement made available to MOUTHPIECE NGR on Sunday, Com. Akinrinade Rasak, Chairman of the group, said the APC’s decision reflects weak internal democracy and a failure of succession planning.

“Oyo is not a zoo. Democracy requires renewal, not entitlement,” Rasak said. “When a party cannot present a new, credible and competent candidate after three terms and seeks to return the same person, it shows a failure of leadership. It suggests the APC believes there is no competent person in Oyo Federal Constituency apart from one man.”

The group condemned what it described as the party’s inability to build new leadership, and urged voters, party stakeholders, and civil society organizations to prioritize competence, transparency, and fresh ideas ahead of the 2027 elections to ensure sustainable development in the constituency.
