Over 50,000 Muslims Gather at Ilaji for Hijrah 1448 Celebration in Ibadan

More than 50,000 Muslims gathered Saturday at Ilaji Hotels & Sports Resort in Akanran for a Hijrah 1448 AH celebration hosted by business leader Jubril Dotun Sanusi. 

Sanusi, the Okanlomo Oodua and Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland, convened Islamic scholars, chief imams, traditional rulers, political leaders and other guests for prayers and reflection to mark the Islamic New Year.

The event was held under the leadership of the Grand Chief Imam of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Sheikh Abdulganiy Agbotomokekere, who is also president of the League of Imams and Alfas of Oyo State. Chief imams from across Oyo State attended.

In his sermon, Sheikh Habeeb Alawaye described Hijrah as a symbol of sacrifice, perseverance and unity. He urged Muslims to promote peace, justice and responsible citizenship, and prayed for Nigeria’s stability and progress.

Dignitaries included Oyo South Senatorial District Sen. Sharafadeen Alli, Oyo Central Sen. Yunus Akintunde, Accord governorship candidate Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, Ido/Ibarapa East Rep. Aderemi Oseni, and other political and community leaders.

Islamic groups present included the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, MSSN; Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN; NASFAT; and QUAREEB.

Participants offered prayers for President Bola Tinubu’s health and leadership, and for peace, security and economic growth in Nigeria and Oyo State. The gathering ended with cultural displays and thanksgiving.

“May this new Islamic year bring renewed hope, abundant blessings, lasting peace and unity to the Muslim Ummah and to all humanity,” organizers said. Hijrah Mubarak 1448 AH.
