*FCTA Warns Event Centres, Hotels Against Hosting Illegal Groups*
The Federal Capital Territory Administration has warned owners of event centres, hotels, and other public buildings in the FCT to desist from making their facilities available to illegal organisations.
The FCTA said land allocations in the territory are strictly for lawful activities, adding that the title documents of any event centre, hotel, or public building used for gatherings of illegal organisations will be revoked.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
“In view of the need to further ensure the security of lives and property in the FCT and sustain the efforts of security agencies, the use of event centres, hotels, and other public buildings will now be closely monitored,” the statement said.
The move, according to the FCTA, is to prevent such facilities from being used by illegal organisations for gatherings capable of disrupting peace in the nation’s capital.
Owners of these facilities are urged to verify the legal status of organisations seeking to use their premises and the purpose of such gatherings before granting access.
“For instance, in this political season, owners of event centres and hotels in particular must ensure they deal only with leadership of political parties recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Proper records of all transactions must also be kept,” Olayinka stated.
The FCTA warned that failure to comply with the directive will lead to revocation of title documents of the affected properties.
