Children’s Day: “Where Are Our Abducted Children?” — Yoruba Youth Leader, Aare Alawode Calls for Urgent Government Intervention

As the world marks the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, Yoruba Youth Leader, Aare Alawode Rahmon Akintunde, has expressed deep concern over the continued abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, calling on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward their rescue.

In a statement released to the media on Tuesday, Aare Alawode described the situation as disturbing and painful, noting that many families are unable to celebrate Children’s Day because of the uncertainty surrounding the whereabouts of their loved ones.

According to him, “Celebrating Children’s Day while some innocent students and teachers remain in captivity is like dancing in a burning bush. This is not the time for silence or empty promises; it is a time for urgent and decisive action.”

He urged the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and all security stakeholders to strengthen security measures across schools and communities to prevent further occurrences, stressing that the protection of children must never be compromised.

The youth leader further appealed for the immediate and safe rescue of all abducted victims, emphasizing that every Nigerian child deserves access to education in a peaceful and secure environment.

Aare Alawode Rahmon Akintunde also celebrated children across Nigeria on the occasion of Children’s Day, describing them as the nation’s future heroes, innovators, and leaders.

“We celebrate the resilience, dreams, and aspirations of every child today. Our children deserve hope, safety, quality education, and a brighter future free from fear and insecurity,” he said.

He concluded by calling on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organizations, religious bodies, and well-meaning Nigerians to support ongoing efforts aimed at safeguarding children and restoring peace in affected communities.
