Seyi Makinde: You Lead, We Follow — Ogbomoso North PDP
The importance of unity and loyalty in political parties cannot be overstated, especially in times of internal challenges and shifting allegiances. In Ogbomoso North Local Government, stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recently demonstrated a strong commitment to these values by organizing a series of peace and unity meetings. These meetings were aimed at strengthening the party’s structure, fostering cooperation among members, and addressing the issue of defection to opposition parties.
The gatherings took place at the party secretariat located at Ajagungbade Plaza, where party leaders, including the chairman, women leaders, youth leaders, and ward executives, assembled to deliberate on the way forward for the PDP in the area. The central focus of the meetings was to promote unity within the party and to carefully address the concerns arising from members who had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the meetings, Alhaji Kabir Ayoade emphasized the need for all party members to rally behind the party’s processes and leadership. He highlighted the importance of loyalty, noting that those who remain steadfast in their commitment to the party often reap the rewards of their dedication. His message encouraged members to stay focused and believe in the long-term benefits of unity and perseverance.
Also speaking at the meeting, the State Treasurer, Hon. Sunday Bankole, commended the efforts of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde. He noted that the Governor is working tirelessly for the progress and development of both the state and the party. He further assured members that matters relating to party unity and the upcoming congress were receiving the attention of the Governor, thereby reinforcing confidence in the leadership.
The party chairman in Ogbomoso North PDP, Hon. Sikiru Idowu, also contributed to the discussion by cautioning against defection. According to him, leaving the party often leads to political setbacks, as growth and promotion are more achievable within a stable and committed structure like the PDP. He urged all party executives across the wards to remain united and work collectively toward the success of the party.
In his closing remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government, Hon. George Gbadegesin Ogunlade highlighted that true success in politics is rooted in loyalty and consistency. He charged party members to embrace the slogan, “Seyi Makinde: You lead, we follow,” as a symbol of their trust in the Governor’s leadership. He further reinforced the ideology of “Seyi Makinde People’s Progress (S.P.P),” encouraging members to align with the vision of sustainable growth and development.
Importantly, he stressed that those who defected to other parties should not be regarded as enemies, as political decisions are often influenced by personal interests. He urged members to remain focused, united, and cooperative across all wards, emphasizing that the real work of rebuilding and strengthening the party has already begun.
The meetings were attended by notable party stakeholders, including Hon. Jide Oketunbi, Alhaji Kabir Ayoade, Hon. Sunday Bankole, Hon. Salawu Taofeek, Hon. Ibraheem Hamzat, Hon. Femi Balogun, and Baa Ashipa, among others. Their presence underscored the seriousness of the initiative and the shared determination to move the party forward.
In conclusion, the peace and unity meetings in Ogbomoso North stand as a clear demonstration of the PDP’s resolve to remain strong, united, and focused. With committed leadership and a renewed sense of purpose among members, the party is well-positioned to overcome its challenges and achieve greater success under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde.
