Oyo Central PDP Stakeholders Back Olasunkanmi’s Senatorial Bid

Stakeholders and leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo Central Senatorial District have endorsed Barrister Olaleye Olasunkanmi, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, for his senatorial bid.

The endorsement came during the stakeholders’ first meeting following the 2025 congress. 

Hon. Dayo Opatokun, in his welcome address, highlighted the impeccable character and deep knowledge of the new senatorial executive committee, urging members to continue supporting Engr. Seyi Makinde’s leadership. 

He emphasized the party’s backing for Olasunkanmi, describing him as a competent leader whose experience and expertise are needed in the senatorial district.

Barrister Olaleye, in declaring his bid, cited his 28 years as a reputable lawyer as an advantage, believing his legal background makes him a suitable candidate. 

He emphasized his commitment to the party, recalling his role in bringing the PDP to Surulere Local Government in 1998. 

He equally stated his commitment to prioritizing the party’s interests.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development has held various public service positions, including Chairman of the Land Allocation Committee in 2006 and Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission from 2007 to 2011.

He has also served as Commissioner in several ministries, gaining experience he believes will benefit the people.

Hon. Mufutau Ogunremi, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs, however described Barrister Olaleye as a dedicated party man, accessible to the people, and representing the fresh perspective needed in the senatorial district. 

Hon. Oyeyemi Oyelami, the State Secretary of the Party, noted Barrister Olaleye’s consistent prioritization of the party and his record of delivering on his mandates.

Chief Mrs. Wulemotu Ibitoye, the State Organizing Secretary, encouraged Barrister Olaleye to uphold his known values. She also advocated for increased support for women within the party. 

Hon. Falowo, the chairman of all PDP local government chairmen, urged Olasunkanmi to focus on the party’s well-being. 

The party chairmen of Ogo-oluwa and Surulere Local Governments highlighted Barrister Olasunkanmi’s stabilizing influence in the local government areas.

Barrister Idris Durosaro, the State Legal Adviser, appreciated the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development for declaring his ambition within the party structure and encouraged other aspirants to do the same.

He also urged Olasunkanmi to engage with stakeholders across the senatorial district, including Governor Seyi Makinde.

The meeting was attended by key party officials, including Hon. Oyeyemi Oyelami, Alhaji Mufutau Ogunremi, Hon. Oludayo Opatokun, Alhaja Wulemotu Ibitoye, Barrister Idris Durosayo, Barrister Waheed Gbadegesin, Prince Oluyinka Moses Tella, local government party chairmen, and members of the senatorial executive committee. 

Also present was Hon. Abideen Adeoye Ogundare, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly.
