“Never Contacted”: Oyekola Refutes Claims of Involvement in Impeachment Scheme Against Gov. Makinde*

Hon. Gbenga Joseph Oyekola, the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, has vehemently refuted rumors of his participation in a secret meeting aimed at impeaching Governor Seyi Makinde.

Oyekola, who represents the Atiba State Constituency, described the allegations as baseless, politically motivated, and a deliberate attempt by mischief-makers to destabilize Oyo State.

In a statement released on Monday, Oyekola clarified that he was never contacted, invited, or consulted regarding any such meeting.

He specifically addressed claims of a clandestine gathering involving Madam Florence Abiola Ajimobi, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, concerning the impeachment of Governor Makinde, which according to him, occurred.

Oyekola emphasized his commitment to peace in Oyo State and reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde, stressing that he remains a member of the Governor’s party and dissociates himself from any actions that could disrupt the current peace.

He further stated that he has not attended any secret meetings with the mentioned personalities nor received any funds related to a plot against the Governor.

He urged the public, party members, and the media to disregard the false information and continue to support Governor Makinde’s administration, which he believes is effectively leading Oyo State toward progress and stability.

His words: “I, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Member Representing Atiba State Constituency, issue this public statement following today’s meeting of the Assembly members at the Governor’s House.

During the meeting, it became apparent that certain individuals are attempting to create discord between the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Governor and Government of Oyo State.

It was revealed that the Rt. Hon. Speaker was invited by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, subsequent to the Speaker seeking the Kabiyesi’s support for his governorship aspirations. The Speaker reported that the Olubadan advised him and offered to secure an APC House of Representatives ticket, along with campaign funds, which the Speaker claims to have declined.

The Speaker also stated he was subsequently invited by the former First Lady of Oyo State, Chief Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, regarding the same matter. He asserted that he was offered money but refused and did not accept any funds.

I, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, completely distance myself from any arrangement or activity that could jeopardize the peace of Oyo State. I was not invited, consulted, or involved in any such meetings or arrangements. I am unable and unwilling to be disloyal to my superior, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

I reaffirm my steadfast loyalty and support for Governor Seyi Makinde, his administration, and his party. I remain fully dedicated to the peace, unity, and ongoing development of Oyo State.

I advocate for peace in Oyo State at all times.

“Omo Oko ni mi, Emi kii se omo ale Oyo State”

Hon. Gbenga Oyekola
Chief Whip, Oyo State House of Assembly (OYHA)
Member Representing Atiba State Constituency
