Adelabu reacts to Olubadan having an anointed candidate
The outgoing Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has rejected claims that the Olubadan of Ibadanland has chosen a favorite successor for the Agodi Government House.
He believes that his background and historic connections to the throne give him an advantage for the position. While speaking to supporters at an important event in the state capital, Adelabu stressed that the monarch is a father figure to everyone and strongly indicated that he should be selected as the governorship candidate.
Adelabu’s confidence stems from the strong political bonds between the city’s most powerful families. He reminded everyone about the long-standing political ties between the Ladojas and the Adelabus, implying that his candidacy is supported by generations of local leadership instead of just recent endorsements.
This response follows Adelabu’s official resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, which has accelerated the race for the 2027 Oyo State governorship.
When he returned to Ibadan, loyal supporters greeted the former CBN Deputy Governor with enthusiasm, seeing his early departure from the Federal Executive Council as a smart move to regain his political influence.
The Amended Electoral Act 2026 is pushing many political appointees to take action sooner than expected.
“The Olubadan is a respected leader for everyone, but we need to consider our service records and the history of our communities. Based on that, my dedication to Oyo State stands out,” said Adelabu.
