PDP: Oyo North Stakeholders Pledge Fair Play for Aspirants

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in the Oyo North senatorial district have committed to providing a level playing field for all party members vying for positions in the 2027 general election. 

This assurance was given during a stakeholders senatorial meeting held in Iseyin on Sunday.

While speaking, the Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, praised party members for their unwavering support, emphasizing the need for unity under Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership. 

He urged members to remain united and focused, discouraging any shifting of allegiance. 

The Deputy Governor equally highlighted the integrity of Baba Saka Balogun, appointed as chairman of the screening committee, and encouraged the committee to conduct its duties with transparency.

The meeting, however, concluded with key resolutions: reaffirming confidence in Governor Makinde’s leadership, supporting the screening committee led by Baba Saka Balogun, and uniting behind the Governor for the 2027 election. 

Earlier, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, the Oyo State PDP chairman, commended the loyalty of party members and their support for Governor Makinde’s leadership. 

He stressed the importance of resolving internal issues within the party and preparing for the forthcoming 2027 general election, ensuring the selection of the best candidates.

The meeting also established a nine-member interactive and screening committee, including Dr. Saka Balogun as chairman, to ensure an objective selection process. 

Additionally, the meeting directed the four federal constituencies in the Oyo North senatorial district to finalize their consensus candidates for the House of Representatives and assembly by April 8th, 2026.

According to the communique, “At the end of the meeting, the following resolutions were adopted: “That the entire Oyo North Senatorial District have absolute confidence and trust in the ingenious leadership of our God sent Executive Governor of Oyo state, Oluseyi Makinde. 

“That the PDP in Oyo North Senatorial District remain United and resolute to stand by our leader Seyi Makinde and eventually pass a vote of confidence on him and his leadership style. 

“That in order to have objective selection of candidates for the senatorial seat in the forthcoming general election, nine members of interactive and screening committee were construed to include, Dr. Saka Balogun (chairman), elder Debo Adejumobi; Moshood Adeshina; Dayo Ogungbenro; Tairu Folashade; Tunde Olayiwola; Hon. Yusuf YA; Razaq gbadegesin and Olukayode Adekunle.

“The meeting directed all the four federal constituencies in the Oyo North senatorial district to resolve their consensus candidates for the House of Representatives and assembly before the due date of April 8th, 2026.”

Prominent leaders present included BoT members, Engr. Hamid Gbadamosi; member elder’s council, Saka Balogun, Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi,  of Reps Oshine Oyedeji; Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha and senator Gbenga Babalola.

Others were Chairman, LGSC, Akinwole Akinwale, Chairman Project Monitoring, Hon. Open Salawu; Pa JJ Adetoro; Senator Gbenga Babalola; Hon. Razaq Gbadegesin Agbeti; Barr. John Farinto; OYHA majority leader, Sanjo Adedoyin; Hon. Sina Pellar; Hon. Yusuf Adekunle; commissioners from the district led by Hon. Niyi Adebisi; all political appointees from the district, including Hon. Adejumobi Samuel and a host of others.
