Oyo PDP Elected Officials Back Governor Seyi Makinde’s Leadership

Elected officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State have passed a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde, commending his leadership, developmental strides, and commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners across the state.

The endorsement formed part of the resolutions reached at a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday at Jagz Hotel in the Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The meeting brought together PDP elected representatives across various levels of government, including members of the House of Representatives, members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, and other key party leaders.

Speaking while reading the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Oyo State PDP Chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro, said the gathering reviewed the progress of governance under the PDP administration in the state and deliberated on political developments within the party.

Ogungbenro said the meeting unanimously passed “a resounding vote of confidence in the leadership and administration of Governor Seyi Makinde in recognition of his visionary governance, commitment to the welfare of the people, and remarkable developmental strides recorded across Oyo State since the inception of his administration.”

The stakeholders also commended the governor for the prudent management of the state’s resources and his commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.

They particularly praised the Makinde administration for prioritising the welfare of workers and pensioners through the regular and prompt payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities.

According to the communiqué, the meeting applauded the governor for clearing a backlog of gratuities inherited from previous administrations amounting to over ₦36 billion.

“The stakeholders also lauded the governor’s assurance that all gratuities accruing during his administration will be fully paid before the end of his tenure, thereby ensuring that no gratuity liabilities are left for the next administration,” Ogungbenro said.

The meeting also commended the administration’s ongoing infrastructure drive across the state, with particular emphasis on the construction of the Ibadan Circular Road, which stakeholders said would open up new economic corridors, attract investment, and stimulate economic growth across Oyo State.

In addition, participants reaffirmed the unity, strength, and stability of the PDP in the state and urged party leaders and members to place the collective interest of the party above individual ambitions.

“The stakeholders collectively resolved to remain united under the umbrella of the PDP, emphasising the need for sustained cooperation, mutual respect, and collective responsibility among party leaders and members,” the communiqué stated.

The meeting further resolved that all elected officials and stakeholders would work together to ensure the continued success of the party in the 2027 general elections.

Stakeholders also emphasised the importance of sustained engagement with party members and constituents at the grassroots level, noting that such engagement remains key to maintaining the PDP’s strong support base across the state.

They also encouraged all PDP elected officials to continue to provide responsive and effective representation to their constituents while supporting policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge by party leaders and elected officials to uphold the ideals of unity, discipline, loyalty, and service to the people while continuing to support Makinde’s administration in delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Oyo State.
