Oyo LG Chairmen Hail Makinde’s ₦10,000 Support for Workers, ₦1.5m Agribusiness Loans to Youths
The Forum of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for approving a ₦10,000 monthly salary top-up for workers in the state, describing the move as timely and impactful amid rising economic pressures.
In a statement issued by the forum chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and publicity secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the chairmen noted that the intervention is aimed at cushioning the effects of recent fuel price increases, particularly the surge in transportation costs affecting civil servants and other categories of workers.
They stressed that the additional allowance would significantly ease the financial burden on workers, while also helping to sustain morale and ensure uninterrupted service delivery across the state’s public sector.
The forum further lauded the governor for his continued commitment to youth empowerment, particularly through the disbursement of ₦1.5 million interest- and collateral-free loans to 1,000 young agripreneurs.
The cheques were presented during the Youth Empowerment Agribusiness Programme (YEAP) SAFER disbursement ceremony and stakeholders’ engagement held at the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub in Oyo State.
According to the chairmen, the initiative reflects the administration’s deliberate efforts to invest in the future of young people while strengthening the agricultural value chain in the state.
They added that the programme not only provides financial support but also positions beneficiaries to contribute meaningfully to food security and economic growth, noting that the Makinde-led administration continues to prioritise youth development and agribusiness as key drivers of sustainable development in Oyo State.
