LAUTECH Loses Six Final-Year ODL Nursing Students Along Suleja-Abuja Express way

Six final-year nursing students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) have tragically lost their lives in a road accident while traveling to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, to sit for their final examinations.

The students, all 500-level candidates of the university’s Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Bachelor of Nursing Science programme, died on Sunday evening along the Suleja–Abuja Expressway. Among them was a heavily pregnant student, deepening the sorrow surrounding the incident.

Their bodies have been deposited in a mortuary pending autopsy and further directives from authorities. The victims were practicing nurses who balanced hospital work with academic pursuits, making their loss even more painful for families, colleagues, and classmates.

The tragedy has cast a shadow over the university community, with colleagues and friends struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss. As of press time, LAUTECH management has yet to release an official statement, and neither the Oyo State Police Command nor the Federal Road Safety Corps has provided details on the cause of the crash.

The incident once again highlights concerns over road safety in Nigeria, with many blaming poor road conditions and reckless driving for the high rate of accidents.
