A Call for True Leadership on the Throne of Awujale of Ijebuland By Damilare E Ariyo

..Ijebuland Needs A Servant Leader, Not A Boss

I respectfully urge the Ogun State Government, the Chieftaincy Council, the Afobaje, and all relevant authorities to ensure the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland is conducted with utmost fairness, transparency, and unwavering adherence to tradition.

The throne of Awujale is far more than a position of authority; it is the very heartbeat of Ijebuland, embodying our rich history, vibrant culture, collective pride, and unique identity. This sacred heritage, passed down through generations, demands profound respect and diligent responsibility.

At this pivotal moment, it is crucial to recognize that Ijebuland requires a leader, not merely a boss. A boss often rules through fear or self-interest, issuing directives without heeding counsel and placing themselves above the populace. In contrast, a true leader serves and inspires. They walk alongside their people, actively listen to concerns, lead by example, and make decisions with humility, integrity, and deep compassion.

My conviction is that the next Awujale must possess a demonstrable history of service, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to the people – a leader consistently committed to the community’s progress and welfare. By these essential standards, Omooba Abimbola Onabanjo (OAO) stands out as the embodiment of the qualities Ijebuland deserves. His dedication to fostering unity, driving development, and preserving our cultural heritage makes him a truly worthy custodian of this sacred throne.

Furthermore, I implore the authorities to guarantee that no threats, intimidation, or undue influence compromise this process. The kingmakers must be empowered to fulfill their responsibilities freely and fairly, guided solely by tradition, profound wisdom, and their conscience.

The integrity of this selection process must be safeguarded at all costs. Ijebuland merits a leader who will unite its people, protect our invaluable heritage, inspire forward progress, and uphold the dignity of the throne. Let us collectively choose a leader whose heart, service, and vision truly reflect the enduring spirit of Ijebuland.
