SSANU LAUTECH Branch Condemns Unjust Arrest and Detention of Union Leaders at FUOYE 

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Branch, has received with deep concern the unjust arrest and illegal detention of SSANU leaders at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Comr. Faleye Ben, Comr. Ayokun, Comr. Oyelude and Comr. Ademola Mutiu, allegedly on the directive of Prof. Fasina Abayomi, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

The Branch unequivocally condemns this unconstitutional and undemocratic act, which constitutes a flagrant violation of the fundamental rights to freedom of assembly and association as guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). Such an action is not only an affront to human dignity but also a direct attack on the very principles of democracy, justice, and industrial harmony.

SSANU LAUTECH Branch expresses total solidarity with the affected comrades and stands firmly by their side in the pursuit of justice and protection of workers’ rights. The Branch equally appreciates the swift and commendable intervention of the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, whose timely mediation ensured the release of the detained union leaders earlier this evening.

Furthermore, we commend the unprecedented show of unity and courage demonstrated by the SSANU leadership of Ekiti State University (EKSU) and the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI). Their prompt and principled actions epitomize the true spirit of unionism and solidarity within the SSANU family.

SSANU LAUTECH Branch reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the defense of workers’ rights, the rule of law, and the sustenance of democratic ideals in all Nigerian universities. 

We call on all stakeholders including university administrators and government authorities to respect the sanctity of industrial relations and to desist from acts capable of jeopardizing peace and stability within the university system.
