One Passenger Killed, Nine Injured In Lagos-ibadan Expressway Accident
A tragic road accident has claimed the life of one passenger and left nine others severely injured along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
According to a statement released on Sunday by the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, the incident occurred at about 6:55 a.m. on Saturday in the inward New Garage axis of the busy highway.
The crash involved a white Iveco truck (registration number MEK 34 XC) and a white Toyota commercial bus (registration number ENU 814 XJ)
Preliminary investigations revealed that speeding and road obstruction were the main causes of the crash.
Casualties and Rescue Efforts
Jayeola confirmed that one male passenger sadly lost his life in the crash while nine others (eight males and one female) sustained varying degrees of injuries.
He added that no passenger escaped unhurt
It was gathered that the FRSC rescue team arrived within minutes, evacuating the injured victims to Emergency Centre, Ojota and Gbagada General Hospital.
Meanwhile, the deceased was taken to Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo.
The accident initially caused obstruction on the expressway, but officials quickly cleared the vehicles to restore normal traffic flow.
The MTD Police, Ojodu Abiodun Division, have now taken custody of the involved vehicles, while further investigations continue.
The FRSC once again appealed to motorists to avoid speeding and reckless driving, especially on high-risk highways like the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which has recorded multiple fatal crashes in recent years.
