High Court Sentences Guard, Cook To Death for Murdering Former Commissioner

The Katsina State High Court 9 has sentenced two men, Shamsu Lawal and Tasi’u Rabi’u, to death for the murder of Rabe Nasir, a former Commissioner for Science and Technology.

The court found them guilty of poisoning Nasir in December 2021.

The court confirmed that Lawal, a former guard, and Rabi’u, a former cook, poisoned Nasir after failing to steal from him.

Medical investigation revealed poison in Nasir’s body.

Sani Sa’adu, another former guard, was sentenced to five years in prison for concealing the truth about the murder.

Gift Bako was acquitted due to lack of sufficient evidence.

The court’s verdict was welcomed by the prosecution and defense counsels, with the convicts’ lawyer pleading for leniency.

The convicts were visibly shaken after the verdict, while Bako’s family and lawyers expressed joy and relief after her acquittal.
