When Wike needed me the most to support him, I was not there for him— Anyanwu

Samuel Anyanwu has brushed aside threats from some PDP members who claim they would leave the party if he returns as National Secretary, dismissing such claims as mere speculation.

As reported by The Nation, Anyanwu questioned why his reinstatement should be a reason for defection, arguing that his position in the party should not lead to such drastic reactions.

He pointed out that the majority of the PDP governors currently in office were not in their positions before he became National Secretary. He stressed that he played a vital role in their political journey by signing their nomination papers submitted to INEC.

He also noted that some of them had only been in power for two years and asked whether he had ever demanded any form of compensation in exchange for endorsing their candidacies.

Anyanwu suggested that much of the opposition against him stemmed from his close ties with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, a relationship he insisted would not be compromised for political reasons. He explained that his friendship with Wike predated his tenure as PDP National Secretary, adding that he never imagined he would hold the position at the time.

Reflecting on his past decisions, he admitted that even when Wike needed his backing during his presidential bid in PDP, he was unable to support him.

“So, what wrong have I committed against the party or its members? These accusations are unfounded,” he stated.

Anyanwu reaffirmed his belief in the PDP’s strength, asserting that the party is too influential to be reduced to a mere component of any political alliance. Instead, he called on smaller parties to dissolve and join the PDP rather than expecting it to merge with them.
