Open Salawu committed to daily iftar for 300 souls

*..As 4,500 meals served since beginning of Ramadan*

In the spirit and mood of the Ramadan Season, the Chairman of Oyo Projects Performance Monitoring Agency,  Hon. Open Salawu, has reiterated his commitment to daily iftar for 300 souls in Ogbomoso.

Addressing journalists on Saturday, the PDP chieftain said he was thrilled to report that 4,500 meals had been served so far since the beginning of the month of Ramadan.

He said: “Our daily target remains steady at 300 meals, and we pray that Almighty Allah continues to grant us the strength, resources, and blessings to achieve our goal of providing 9,000 meals by the end of Ramadan.”

Open Salwu, who is the Babalaje of Ogbomoso land, said the gesture is borne out of love and that offering food to break the fast (iftar) is a highly encouraged act of charity in Ramadan.

He noted that beyond iftar, Muslims must ensure that those in need have access to food throughout the month which is a significant act of compassion.

Open Salawu added that Ramadan is a time for increased prayer, reflection, and remembrance of Allah (Dhikr), which nourishes the soul, and prayed Allah accept the action as an act of Iba’dah.

According to Prophet Muhammad, whoever provides food for a fasting person to break their fast will receive the same reward as the fasting person, without diminishing the reward of the fasting person.

Feeding the hungry is seen as a way to earn forgiveness of sins, salvation from hellfire, and to be closer to Allah.
