Fubara: I don’t know you, I don’t care if you are from gov’t house, call Speaker or go— Gateman (Video)
A dramatic scene played out at the Rivers State House of Assembly complex on Tuesday when a security guard barred representatives of Governor Siminalayi Fubara from entering the premises. The governor’s envoys had arrived to deliver an official document ahead of his planned appearance before lawmakers to re-submit the 2025 budget.
A video shared by SYMFONI captured the moment the gatekeeper stood firm, refusing entry to the emissaries. Despite their insistence that they were from the Government House, the security personnel demanded further proof of authorization.
“Do you have the Speaker’s contact? I don’t know who you are. Whether you are from the Government House or not, I can’t recognize you,” the guard declared. “If you have the Speaker’s number, call him so I can confirm the letter. I won’t call him on your behalf.”
This incident adds to the ongoing power struggle in Rivers State, where tensions have been escalating between Governor Fubara and factions within the state legislature. The security official’s refusal to accept the document highlights possible lapses in communication between the executive and legislative arms of government.
Governor Fubara’s decision to re-submit the 2025 budget follows a contentious first presentation in 2023, which sparked both political and legal disputes. His recent efforts to mend ties with lawmakers have been met with resistance, fueling uncertainty about the state’s political landscape.
As of the time of this report, neither the Speaker of the Assembly nor Governor Fubara’s office had released an official statement regarding the standoff.
The viral video of the encounter has since ignited debates among residents, adding another twist to the unfolding political crisis in Rivers State.
Hear him speak: “Do you have the Speaker’s number? I don’t know you, whether Government House or no Government House, I don’t know you,” the gateman stated. “Call the Speaker if you have his number so I can hear from him that there is a letter. This is not a quarrel. Brother, I cannot call the Speaker for you.”
