Independent awards 2023: Makinde honors Bode George in Lagos (PHOTOS)

The Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, on Saturday, joined the former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George in commemoration of his award of recognition conferred by Independent Newspaper.

Chief Olabode was among the 28 awardees selected across relevant categories for recognition for their honor and contributions to humanity.

Governor Makinde was represented by his Deputy, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, at the Independent Awards 2023 held at Expo Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

According to the organizers, the awardees were selected based strictly on their achievements while in office without compromising its integrity as the most credible newspaper in Nigeria, with millions of followers to its credit.

The prestigious Independent awards featuring governors and senators also included distinguished individuals and organizations such as Tajudeen Abass, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Seplat Petroleum Development Company, Zenith Bank, among others.

Chief Olabode Ibiyinka George and Chief Immanuel Iwuanyanwu were however presented the Life Time Achievement Award.

The event’s chairman, Chief Aremu Olusegun Osoba, had earlier stated that the recipients should be accorded due honor for their achievements emphasizing that they were strictly selected with former military governor Bode George among the finalists. 

He congratulated the winners and wished them well in their pursuits, thanking the Independent newspaper for its stringent selection process.

While receiving the award, Chief Bode George appreciated Independent Newspaper for the honor bestowed on him saying, “This is not a time of politics but a time everyone must unite to build our nation.”

However, in his congratulatory remarks, the Deputy Governor described Chief Bode George as an elder statesman who has made tremendous impact in Nigeria.

Barr. Lawal equally felicitated with the president General of Ohanaze Ndigbo, Iwuanyanwu and wished him all the best in life.

Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on Federal Constituency matters, Hon. Dare Adeleke was among top Oyo government functionaries present at the event.
