Massive turn-out as Oyo Deputy Gov, Wife, cast vote

The Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, and his wife, Chief (Mrs) Ajibola Lawal, on Saturday, exercised their civic right In Irepo local government amidst cheers and positive attitude.

The duo who are members of Peoples Democratic Party, arrived their polling unit 04 in ward 06, and were welcomed by chunks of electorates who were on the queue to cast their votes. 

Addressing newsmen after casting his vote, the Deputy Governor, expressed satisfaction with the large turn out of voters across wards in the local government. 

He stated that he is confident of victory in the ongoing local government election since the party’s candidates have put in a lot of effort campaigning to ensure resounding victory. 

He added that PDP party members in Irepo local government are the most prepared across the state for today’s election, emphasizing that PDP members ran door-to-door campaigns, ward campaigns, and rallies to seek people’s vote ahead of the election and to highlight the accomplishments of the current administration.

The Deputy Governor said: “As you can see, the election is ongoing peacefully and a significant number of people have turned out to cast their votes. The Makinde administration will hold one more election prior to the expiration of the Omituntun 2.0, having successfully conducted two local government elections in the last five years. 

“What HIs Excellency, Seyi Makinde is doing, is to ensure that local government election stand in Oyo state and bequeath the good legacy to incoming administrations. Governor Makinde doesn’t believe in sole administrator unlike other states. He believes in transparency. 

“You will recall that the previous administration didn’t conduct local government election for complete 7 years. All they did was sole administrator arrangement despite claiming democracy. So, we must commend Makinde administration for its boldness to conduct local government election. 

“The election is going peacefully. The government also made adequate security in place. And the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) in charge of the election have been told to be transparent and ensure that everyone are allowed to exercise their civic right. 

“I have cast my own vote. The PDP chairmanship candidate, Alhaji Olayiwola Tunde Taoheed have also voted including the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Solihu Abdul waheed Adelabu, current local government chairman, Joel Oyetunji, my Special assistants, and host of others. 

“Here in Irepo local government, it’s important to let the good people of Oyo state know that election is ongoing peacefully without any issue.”
