Be unrelenting, keep promoting nursing education— Oyo Deputy Governor charges
The Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal has charged the entire staff of Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eleyele (Kishi Campus) to be unrelenting and keep promoting nursing education in Irepo local government.
Barr. Lawal gave the charge on Monday while hosting the school management led by the provost, Dr. Gbojubola Owolabi at his resident in Kishi.
According to him, it becomes a great danger to Kishi community if children are not teachable.
He emphasized the need of blending religion with western education to move the town, stressing that education remains the best legacy to bequeath to children.
The Deputy Governor, who was in company of his wife, Chief (Mrs) Ajibola Lawal said having the college in Kishi is an opportunity and as such, efforts must be made to ensure that the school is independent.
He equally commended the provost, Dr. Owolabi for her strives towards the development of the school particularly on accreditation, full autonomy, among others, adding that the school bill is already waiting for accent and in due course will will get approval.
The Bamofin of Kishi land said: “I am really passionate about education because education is key. Our intervention for the midwifery College of Nursing has opened door for more intake of students. Whatever you still want us to do to make the college independent and functional, we will do it as we have many kishians who are very anticipated for education.
“Mrs Owolabi is Fantastic. We are happy that she is back. I really need to commend her efforts. We are happy that she’s back and we pray that others in the system will also grow in their chosen career. Thank you for coming.
“That we have the college here is an opportunity and we will make sure that the school is independent. Be rest assured that you will have full accreditation very soon as the bill is already before His Excellency awaiting accent and in due course, it will get approval.”
Earlier in her remarks, the provost noted that they have invited 320 students for interview to be able to select the best 200 students into the Basic Nursing programme of the College.
She thanked the Deputy Governor for his support towards the admission increase of the school to accommodate more students particularly students in Kishi community.
“On behalf of all of us, we appreciate your efforts. We will not be discouraged but keep teaching as we have great passion to teach and we will not leave any stone unturned.
“You have taught us not to be discouraged about the development of kishi community despite not voting for you. So, we will keep pushing. And we say thank you very much. We sincerely extend our appreciations too, to the wife of the Deputy Governor, Chief Ajibola Lawal for the warm reception.”
