Oyo Deputy Gov attends 3rd Housing Ramadan lecture, tasks Muslims on good deeds

Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, has tasked Muslims on good deeds in this holy month of Ramadan for massive rewards from Allah.

The Deputy Governor who made the plea during a 3rd Ramadan lecture organized by the Housing Corporation on Thursday, said that life is vanity and that only good deeds will remain after death.

He commended the guest lecturer, Ustaz Abdul-kabir Muhammadul Awwal, for his excellent speech on the value of contributing to the cause of Allah, saying that his call for support in completing the Housing Mosque serves as a wake-up call for him and other Muslims to make donations during this holy month of Ramadan.

Lawal, who described the Housing Corporation mosque as the smallest in the Bodija estate, said its construction and expansion is basically to accommodate islamic worshipers particularly those working in the corporation.

He called on Muslims to contribute to the current construction with money, cement, iron rod, and other materials, emphasising that the mosque is the only alternative option to the Bodija mosque.

“Thank you very much for calling our attention to the ongoing mosque construction. You have reminded me that there’s nothing in this life that won’t vanish except the good deeds.

“Prophet Muhammed was also remembered for his good deeds. So, we will also be remembered for our good deeds. For this reason, I implore everyone to help us finish the mosque.

While tasking the housing staff to remain committed to their work, the Deputy Governor urged them to prepare for market competition as the housing corporation must maintain its position as a leader due to its vast land holdings.

He said: “Oyo state housing corporation is a government enterprise. There’s good will and the power to run activities. Personnel are within the Housing corporation. We are in to real estate and land sales. You must brace up and put up a good attitude.

“Finally, I thank you all for coming and I also thank all donors. I hope we will be able to double our efforts ahead of the next year Ramadan for the mosque completion.

The guest lecturer, Ustaz Muhammed Awwal, stressed earlier that fearing Allah while on earth and performing good actions are two important ways to meet Allah in a positive way. He also emphasised that doing good deeds is the only way to avoid the punishment of Qabr.

The lecturer exhorted Muslims to continue spending what little they have before death arrives, pointing out that even if one were to obtain all money in life, what matters most is the meal consumed, the clothing worn, and the sadaqah which would follow you to the grave.

“If you want to meet Allah in good and have a good ending, you must spend from the little you have to the cause of Allah.

“Governor Seyi Makinde, who is not a Muslim built mosque and Islamic center. So, if a governor can do this, then it behoves on us the Muslims too, to also follow the good step and ensure that we spend our money towards the completion of this housing mosque, among others deeds.

The event was attended by Commissioner for Education, Professor Solihu Abdulwaheed; DG OYSIPA, Mr Tilewa; Honorable Akeem Ige; Baba Oyero; KK Oloso and host of others.
