Students Rejoice As Oyo Lawmaker, Agboworin, Distributes Education Materials In Federal Constituency

MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that materials worth millions of Naira, were on Monday distributed to beneficiaries drawn from primary and  secondary schools in the Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East LG respectively by the member of House of Representatives, representing Ibadan North East/South East Federal constituency, Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin.

The materials distributed include school bags, writing materials, exercise books and government-approved civic education textbooks for the JSS 1 to JSS 3 students.

During the materials’ presentation at Lagelu Grammar School in Oremeji, Ibadan, Agboworin, the chair of the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, gave a welcome speech and mentioned that the goal was to inspire young students in his constituency to view education as a crucial tool for their personal growth.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the federal constituency’s impoverished citizens and improving education.

He emphasised his prior accomplishments in the areas of infrastructure, security, empowerment, healthcare, and education while assuring the constituents that he would not back down from his commitment to ensuring that the people benefit from the benefits of democracy through tangible initiatives.

He said: “I want to thank you all for coming to this event today. We can see that this hall is filled to capacity because we are doing very as far as the reports we are getting are concerned. And we will continue to do well for our people.

“When I was voted into office in 2019, I came in with five-point agenda, which I know are vital. So, today, this is one of the things I am bringing to my constituency. We have done a lot when it comes to education, health, security and infrastructural development of our communities, which we are using to touch the lives of our primary and secondary school students.

“We are giving these thousands of materials to primary and secondary school students drawn from different schools in Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East Federal constituency.

“We are also giving government-approved textbooks on Civic Education to Juniour Secondary School students 1 to 3, which we want them to put in their libraries. So, it is not about me but what I can do for my constituency. Their parents voted for me to be in this position and I must do the needful.

“So, I must say this is the beginning of good things. I want to assure you that I will do more on education, security, infrastructure and health sectors. I am also promising that more borehole projects and solar lights will be installed in our communities as well as erection of more security gates.”

Similarly, Agboworin used the opportunity to urge participants at the gathering including party leaders and members, to give necesary support for the PDP in the forthcoming local government election in April.

“This is PDP doing this for you. We have local government election coming up and I want you all to support all the candidates of our party by coming out en masse to vote for them. As a party, we are doing very well but we still need to come out to support them on the election day.

“So, I hope others will also emulate this kind of gesture with the intention of supporting the efforts of the governor at the state level for the betterment of the good people of the state.

The Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Federal Constituency Matters, Hon. Dare Adeleke, while speaking at the event, appreciated the efforts of Agboworin and commended his sterling performance, saying “his actions are worthy of emulation.”

He described the distribution of the education materials as ‘distinguished and God’s own project’, which will go a long way in motivating the students to take their studies serous.

Hon. Adeleke, while maintaining that the people of the federal constituency are enjoying the quality representation of Agboworin, noted that the lawmaker has, no doubt, given to the people much more than he has given himself.

He, however, called on other representatives and all appointees of government, who have been honored by the governor to occupy different different political positions, to emulate Agboworin by also giving back to the people.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education of Oyo State, who joined in presenting the materials to the beneficiaries, Professor Saliu Abdulwaheed Adelabu, expressed gladness over the development.

He emphasised the importance of education to nation building, saying that the best investment that can be given to children is education which, according to him, has a way of reshaping their lives positively.

The Don urged Agboworin not to relent in his efforts at advancing the scope of education in the Federal constituency, which, he said, “the governor of Oyo State is keenly interested in.”

He added that he would keep using Agboworin as a point of reference for other political leaders to emulate in the area of education advancement in the state.

In his vote of thanks, the Executive Chairman of Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Pastor Akinade Alamu, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker, saying Agboworin has made himself become one of the favorites of Governor Makinde as a result of his performance, representation and delivery in his constituency.

“I am not really surprised because he has been doing well in this area before now and I know he will continue. I am saying this not because I am from the North East area but because He has been performing wonderfully well, and that is why he is one of the favorites of Governor Seyi Makinde,” he stated.
