Officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have killed one Isa Dei-Dei, a “notorious bandit”, in a suburb of the federal capital territory (FCT).
The police said the intelligence response team received information about the hideout of a notorious bandit group in FCT on Monday.
In a statement on Wednesday, Muyiwa Adejobi, force spokesperson, said when the operatives arrived at the scene, the bandits fled and the officers went after them.
“The operatives immediately went after them, which led to a fierce gun duel,” Adejobi said.
“In the process, the notorious Isa Dei-Dei was neutralised while other members of the syndicate managed to escape with gunshot injuries.”
The force spokesperson asked members of the public, especially medical practitioners, to call the attention of the police to anyone seen with gunshot injuries.
Recently, the spate of kidnappings has increased in Abuja, the country’s capital.
On January 2, bandits abducted Mansur Al-Kadriyar alongside his six daughters when they attacked their residence in Zuma 1, Bwari area of Abuja.
The bandits later released the father of the girls to look for the ransom to release his daughters.
On January 21, the remaining five girls regained freedom after spending 18 days in captivity.
