ENERGY: Oyo Govt. Lauds BAT Collaboration on Sustainability, Signs Electricity Law

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has lauded the collaboration with the British American Tobacco (BAT) Ibadan Plant and for ensuring energy sufficiency and sustainability in the state.

Makinde revealed this during the signing of the Oyo State Electricity Bill into law as witnessed by Stakeholders in the state and power sector.

Speaking with newsmen on the recent Electricity Bill passed into law by Gov. Makinde, Seun Ashamu expressed his joy and thrilled to have witnessed Gov. Seyi Makinde assent to ‘Oyo State’s Electricity Law’.

“With the foundations we laid during the first term in office we expect to take full advantage of the Constitutionally devolved powers.” He concluded.

Also, the state Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Seun Ashamu said, the collaboration has been productive and yielding desirable results for the Light Up Initiative of the state.

Ashamu added that the state government will be commissioning 11 new power plants of which 10 are gas-powered while others work with solar energy as explained by Gov. Seyi Makinde.

“As you can see, Gov. Makinde hailed the impact of the company, British American Tobacco BAT on the role they have played in the economic development of the state.”

“No doubt, they’re making a great impact on our energy sufficiency and sustainability.” Ashamu concluded.
