Oke Legacy Foundation doles out 200 scholarship to Ogbomoso constituents
A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo state (PDP), Hon. (Dr) John Adisa Oke, has doled out 200 scholarship to students in Ogbomoso zone as part of his efforts to make indigents have access to education and are free from financial hardships.
Oke, who disclosed this at the ongoing form collection event a few days ago, when prospective indigent students were gathered at the foundation secretariat beside the Best Legacy College of Education, added that the gesture was part of his commitment to ease the hardship of his constituents.
He explained that the Best Legacy College of Education is accepting 50 adults on scholarship who have completed their NCE programme or ND at various institutions, and the foundation is equally awarding scholarship to 150 youths across the five local governments in the Ogbomoso zone for a three-year NCE programme in various courses in Sciences, Languages, Vocational Education and early Child Education.
According to him, BELCOED has the approval to run a degree program and it is affiliated with Al-Hikmah University, Kwara state.
The PDP chieftain, who is an educationist and the Director of Best Legacy College of Education, however hinted that a lot of beneficiaries have been admitted and graduated in previous years, while also encouraging others to take advantage of the 2023/2024 scholarship program before the deadline.
He noted that the scholarship, which is valued at millions of Naira, is a gesture inherited from his late father since 1996 and also in keeping with his avowed commitment to always empower and reach out to the less privileged in society so they can fulfill their innate potentials.
He said: “After my father passed away, I was committed to carry on with the scholarship project, which has undoubtedly contributed significantly to the advancement of many Ogbomoso impoverished students’ academic goals since its inception.
“In light of the current high school dropout rates due to economic challenges, I will continue to make my fair share of contributions to the development of Ogbomoso zone and to empower students in any way that I can.”
A few of the beneficiaries who spoke with MOUTHPIECE NGR were elated to be so considered as they promised to make the best use of the opportunity.
“I’m really overwhelmed. I wasn’t expecting this, and I really thank God for this opportunity,” one of the beneficiaries said.
