Nigeria Solid Minerals Need to be Maximized for Industrial and Technology Growth, Says  Smato 

MHR, Ojo Sunday Makanjuola popularly known as Smato, the Deputy Chairman House Committee of Solid Minerals, with the Chairman of the Standing Committee, had a pivoted meeting with the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullah Sule, along with other members of the Committee. 

Makanjuola, reviewed the mission of their visit to the state, as part of their assignment being assigned to them as the standing committee of solid minerals at the Nigerian House of Representatives. 

He said the committee has examined the availability of solid minerals in Nasarawa State and Nigeria entirely, which shows that Nigeria is blessed with abundant strategic solid minerals, which are only a very small percentage of those minerals that are fully harvested and utilized. 

In a statement made available to the media on Thursday, the committee emphasized on those who mined without permission from the community or the  Government, which endangered the lives of those living in the community into a pose of threat from the government, as Nigeria law did not give room to mining without permission from the government. 

According to the Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal lawmaker, the committee is working on an amending bill on the Mining Act and enhancing corporate social responsibility within the mining sector to ensure the well-being of our communities and organizations. 

Smato, equally emphasizes the significance of diversifying our focus beyond crude oil, saying that adequate knowledge of our mineral reserves is essential for informed planning and development. 

“Together, let us work towards maximizing Nigeria’s Solid Minerals resources for a more diversified and prosperous future,” he added. 

Gov. Abdullahi Sule however acknowledged the visitation of the working committee and appreciated their efforts for counting his state as the first visiting state among others.
