Drama as Appeal Court sacks Speaker, Deputy Speaker in Abuja

MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Tuesday removed the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The court, in its judgement, declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Sa’ad Abdullahi Ibrahim (Turakin-Opanda), as the rightful winner of the election for Umaisha/Ugya State Constituency.

Similarly, the Court of Appeal sitting also sacked the Deputy Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru Barade of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The three-man panel of Justices, in its judgment on Monday, nullified the judgment of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, which had initially confirmed Barade as the duly elected representative for Bauchi Central State Constituency.

Consequently, the panel ordered rerun elections in some polling units in the constituency, where the appellant, Aliyu Abdullahi Ilela of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleged over-voting.

The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to retrieve the Certificate of Return earlier issued to the Deputy Speaker and conduct a rerun election in the affected polling units.

Pmnews.ng reports that the judgment was made just a few days after the appellate court sacked the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Sulaiman.
