We’ll continue to transform Oyo state into a clean and beautiful haven— Makinde
Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, has assured that his administration will continue to transform the state into a clean and beautiful haven with the several projects initiated to prevent, control and promote environmental sustainability.
The Governor, who stated this on Thursday during a town hall sensitization program tagged “Make Oyo State Sparkling Clean with a theme: “Let’s Join Hands”, held at the House of Chief, Agodi Secretariat, said that Oyo state has been contributing counterpart funding to ensure that the state does not experience serious flooding during the raining season.
Represented by his deputy, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, the governor noted that the advocacy is to maintain law, adding that the adequate sensitization is necessary to deter lawbreakers and to keep the environment clean.
He stated that the people of Oyo state must have their trade in secure environment devoid of constituting nuisance, adding that the Commissioner for Education has been mandated to pull down structures around school fences.

The Deputy governor who said that the state is equal in size however said that the challenges are daunting to keep the environment clean.
He stated that in addition to the current road construction, another 100 kilometres of road would be built, and no responsible government would permit anyone to erect a shed on the road.
He equally noted that the Ministry of Environment has been mandated by the Oyo State government to monitor violations for the state’s cleaner, even though the environmental tribunal exists to prosecute violators.
“On behalf of His Excellency, Seyi makinde, we commend the initiative and I can assure you that His Excellency, is well prepared to key into this initiative and with full support so that the environment would be cleaner to avoid flooding among others.
“Part of the formation of government is is to ensure good environment and as such, we will ensure that more sanitary inspectors are employed so that we will make effect of whatever being put together.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Mogbonjubola Olawale Jagaban AbdulMajeed said that the ministry is actively working to reduce flood risk in various zones across Oyo State through targeted projects.
According to him, the program looks forward to discussing these initiatives and collaborating with fellow stakeholders at the event to further enhance the environmental well-being of our state.
“However, the phrase Make Oyo State (Ibadan) Sparkling Clean-“Let join hands” is not merely a rhetorical flourish but a clarion call to action. It beckons us to envision a state where cleanliness is not only a virtue but a way of life, where our natural surroundings radiate with a brilliance that mirrors the vibrancy of our communities. The challenge before us is considerable, but so too is the potential for positive change”. Honourable Commissioner opined.

“In the pursuit of progress in Oyo State, it is crucial to recognize the integral role each individual plays in fostering sustainable practices, particularly in waste management, clean and green initiatives, and addressing broader environmental concerns. “Oyo State’s sustainable development hinges on a collective effort to address pressing environmental challenges. Achieving sustainability necessitates active participation from individuals who play pivotal roles in shaping the trajectory of the state’s environmental well-being”, he said.
