“Mental Health affects how we think, feel, and act” – Rotary Club of Ilorin Fate Neighbourhood raises alarm in celebration of World Mental Health Day

On October 10th, the Rotary Club of Ilorin Fate Neighbourhood, in collaboration with the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Budo-Egba in Kwara State, came together to mark World Mental Health Day.

This commemorative event served as a clarion call for attention to the vital role mental health plays in our daily lives.

Under the theme “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right,” the event not only celebrated World Mental Health Day but also emphasized the importance of mental well-being as a fundamental human entitlement.

The overarching objective was to raise awareness and advocate against issues like suicide and the misuse of drugs and illicit substances.

The event unfolded with various activities and presentations aimed at shedding light on the significance of mental health. Experts and speakers from the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital provided insights into mental health challenges, coping strategies, and the importance of seeking help when needed.

Rotarian Yaqub Salmat Abolore, President of the Rotary Club of Ilorin Fate Neighbourhood, stated, “Mental health is often overlooked, yet it profoundly influences how we think, feel, and act. Our collaboration with the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital and our theme ‘Mental Health is a Universal Human Right’ underlines the urgency of this issue.”

This event served as a significant step in the ongoing conversation about mental health in the community. It was a resounding call to action, promoting the message that mental health should be a universal priority, accessible to all, and that seeking help for mental health issues is a sign of strength, not weakness.

As the world continues to grapple with the far-reaching effects of mental health challenges, the Rotary Club of Ilorin Fate Neighbourhood’s event on World Mental Health Day serves as a reminder that together, we can create a world where mental health is a fundamental human right and a shared responsibility.
