Makinde commends Muslim community for voting him overwhelmingly in 2023 election 

…Congratulates Nureni Akanbi on installation as Baba’sale Musulumi of Ibadanland 

Governor of Oyo sate, Seyi Makinde, has expressed his profound gratitude to Islamic clerics and the entire Muslim community in Oyo state for their overwhelming support of him in the 2023 general election. 

The Governor, who made the appreciation on Saturday during the installation and turbanning ceremony of the new Baba’sale Musulumi of Ibadan land, Alhaji (Chief) Nureni Adebayo Akanbi J.P held at the Oja Oba Central Mosque, said that the Muslim supported him with their votes despite contesting against a Muslim, Senator Teslim Folarin of All Progressives Congress.

He thanked the Islamic clerics and pledged to never let them down, pointing out that the APC candidate lost his polling unit due to the overwhelming support. 

Makinde, who praised Nureni Akanbi as a very brave man, however mentioned that he is not only one of the Elders Council of Oyo State in politics but also the Aare Omo Baba Ologun and now the baba’sale muslulumi of Ibadan land. 

He applauded the method by which Nureni Akanbi was selected as the sixth Baba Isale Musulumi of Ibadanland, stating that similar arrangements exist in Islamic settings in Ibadanland and Oyo State.

The Governor pledged to ensure that the Oja Oba central mosque is fully renovated within two months at the request of the Chief Imam of Ibadanland. 

While urging the good people of Oyo state to bear with the current economic challenges of the country, he promised that his government will continue to do everything to lessen its effect. 

One of the highlights of the occasion was the Governor’s compassionate and loving gesture towards a programme anchor who had politely asked for Umurah slot and was granted.

The Governor asked Mr. Okin, the beneficiary of the Umurah slot, to take advantage of the opportunity to offer prayers for Nigeria when he travels to the holy land before December, asking Allah to deliver Nigeria from its economic woes.  

Among the notable dignitaries in attendance were Deputy Governor of Oyo State Barrister Abdul- Raheem Adebayo Lawal, and his wife, Chief Mrs. Ajibike Lawal, Senator Hosea Agboola, Commissioners, Chairman of the Civil Service Commission Alhaji Kamorudeen Aderibigbe and host of others.
